In the winter of 1994-95, a progressive group of fifteen beef producers located in southeast Alabama organized an association to promote the production of top gaining feeder cattle and add value to these cattle by using a high quality health and conditioning program. This producer organization, the Southeast Alabama Feeder Cattle Marketing Association, has become known as S.A.F.E. because of its high health standards. Since the initial sale offering on July, 1995, the S.A.F.E. group had held its annual summer calf sale on the first Thursday evening each August. While the numbers of feeder cattle sold in the S.A.F.E. summer sales have increased from 636 head per year ( average of 1995 - 1997 sales ) to 1550 head per year ( average of 2001 - 2003 sales ) to 4635 head per year ( average of 2008 - 2010 sales), the S.A.F.E. mandate to produce and offer quality, healthy calves is steadfast. From the beginning, S.A.F.E. has relied on the expertise of a marketing consultant to insure that its cattle are fairly represented and accurately described to all potential customers. In 1995, the marketing consultant, John Moseley, Jr. ( Little John ) of W.L. Moseley Livestock in Blakely, Georgia was selected to fill this critical role. Today as in the beginning, John Moseley, Jr. of Moseley Cattle Auction LLC, serves S.A.F.E. in the same capacity for its 18th Annual Summer Feeder Calf Sale, scheduled for August, 2012.11th ANNUAL SUMMER FEEDER CALF SALE

In the spring of 2002, the S.A.F.E. concept traveled across the state line into Georgia with the guidance of John Moseley, Jr. ( Little John ). A group of fifteen producers came together to form Southwest Georgia Feeder Cattle Marketing Association. The purpose of the group is to promote the production of top gaining feeder cattle and add value to these cattle by using a high quality health and conditioning program. While the numbers of feeder cattle sold in the S.A.F.E. summer sales have increased from 1250 head for the first year in 2002 to 4065 head per year ( average of 2008 - 2010 sales ) the S.A.F.E. mandate to produce and offer quality, healthy calves is steadfast. The GA S.A.F.E. group included a fall sale in November of 2002 for other producers in area. The first sale had a head count of 850; With an average of 2265 head ( average for the sale dates of 2008 - 2010), as you can see the average has climbed with the help of GA & AL S.A.F.E. group contributers. The 11th Annual Summer Calf Sale is scheduled for November , 2012.
